Important Information We should All Know About STD’s

How to avoid STD’s? To 100% avoid all STD’s we would have to be abstinent.  Realistically, this is not going to happen for most of us so instead of having unprotected with multiple partners why not invest is a Sex Toy; they are STD free! :) Please read on to find out Important Information about STD’s/STI’s and how we can avoid them as best as possible.

We must be certain that we use protection when engaging in sexual intercourse.  This not only prevents unwanted pregnancies but UNWANTED Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Infections as well.  STD’s/STI’s can be transmitted a couple different ways.  Most think STD’s are transmitted by having unprotected sex, which is not always the case. We can catch STD’s, like herpes or genital warts, through skin-to-skin contact with an infected area or sore. Some also think we can avoid STD’s if we have sex orally or anally.  This is UNTRUE! They can be transferred through tiny cuts or openings in the body; anywhere on the body.  This is why we always want to be protected.  Nowadays we have protection for anal sex and oral sex.

Three factors that play a key role in determining if you may be at risk for catching an STD:

1. Persons becoming Sexually Active at a young age. The earlier we start having sex the higher our chances of catching an STD become.

2. High numbers of sexual partners. The more we have sex the higher our chances become; especially if we are engaging in sex with multiple partners we are unfamiliar with.

3. UNPROTECTED SEX. Latex condoms are the only form of birth control that reduce your risk of getting an STD.  Condoms Must be used each and every time we decide to have sex.  Spermicides, diaphragms, and other birth control methods may help prevent pregnancy, but they don’t protect a person against STDs. * (Be cautious of condoms containing the Non- Oxynol 9 spermicide as it has been proven that this substance can actually play a role in facilitating the HIV virus, which is why we no longer carrying any products containing this ingredient)

How Do I Know If I have an STD?

Chances are, if you have had multiple sex partners that you have had unprotected sex with you may be at risk of being an STD carrier.  You should get checked out by a Physician every time you have unprotected sex, especially if it is with a new partner. Many times STD’s have no symptoms so we won’t know we are a carrier until we get checked.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms below please seek medical attention immediately:

  • Unusual discharge of any fluid from the penis or vagina.
  • pain or irritation when urinating or during intercourse.
  • sores, blisters, ulcers, lumps, warts or rashes/irritation anywhere in the genital/anal areas.
  • itchiness of the genital or anal areas.
  • persistent or reoccurring diarrhea

Remember to take all precautions necessary to avoid contracting an STD; Use your condoms! STD’s are not only embarrassing but they are detrimental to your health and can, at times, be deadly. If you have an STD don’t infect others; Use your condoms!
